Thursday night we took the bus from segovia to madrid. we got to the hotel and then ran to El Corte Ingles to buy super glue for andrea's broken shoes. El corte ingles is a department store that is a mix between target, costco, nordstroms and every other store you can imagine! After el corte, we went to this bar called El Tigre, just a local, popular Madrid bar. the beauty of el tigre is that with your dring comes all the tapas you can possibly eat. You are so full, that you don't have to worry about dinner, and possibly not breakfast the next day either! Getting into Portugal we stopped at the tourism office for info and to buy our Lisboa Card which would get us on to all public transportation as well as the Torre de Belem, Monasterio de Jeronimo, Castelo de Sao Jorge for free as well as give us discounts on all of the attractions at Sintra!
Then we went off exploring. First we saw the Monastary of Jeronimo where I got to practice my portugues for the first time (standing right in front of the monastary, we thought it was a library, I asked where it was)
It was absolutely majestic, the arcitecture was precise down to the very last detail!
An integral part of Portuguese architecture is tile, not just tile on the ground, thats normal... I'm talking about tile on the walls. It is so interesting because it is unique to Portugual, I have never seen anything like it.
We kept walking around town and saw the statue dedicated to Christopher Columbus (which by the way is not facing in the direction of the Americas
