Hi everyone,
I have decided to start a blog so that you can all follow my adventures! Today is June 8 and I am still adjusting to the time difference. I woke up at 5 and at 7 which here is very very early because nothing opens until 10. This makes breakfast later and lunch is not until 2 or 3 or sometimes 4. Right now it is wierd to type in english because everything I do is in Spanish.
Today was the first day of school and we went on a tour of the university. It is private and is called i.e. universidad. it stands for international university of business. Apparently it is the second best in the world. (he told us it is the 2nd most powerful, but i think that it translates to best). The university was founded in 1218 by the catholic kings. When they wanted to expand it, they didn't have enough room so they used the ruins of a nearby church. Now, 800 years later people still walk in the ruins! The principle clave (el clave principal de san domingo) has been restored to its former glory and in the halway of the university is a glass floor where you can look down into the ruins. There are also rooms of ruins where you can walk in the ruins and explore. The picture above is of the original door to the school. At the top is Jesus surrounded by bishops. Below him is a skull, the skull of adam and they say that when jesus's blood fell on adam, he was redeemed for eternity. Below, is santo domingo and the king and queen of the time (fernando y isabela) kneeling to the side.
