Hi everyone,
I have so much to tell you, but let me begin by saying that last week was midterms which I will say is why i didn't updat you all. In walk around segovia class we walked the muralla de segovia which is the impressive (but not defensive) wall around the city. It starts and ends at the Alcazar. The day we walked all 2.5 miles of the wall was cold and rainy. Nevertheless I took this beautiful photo from the mirador near plaza mayor.
The picture below is of the puerta de San andres, built during the roman period out of limestone (I think thats what she means when she says piedra amarilla, literal translation yellow stone) on a granite foundation. The individual stones have marcos de canderos, which are the initials of the people who worked the stone. In order to be paid for their work, employees would put their initials into the stone and at the end of the pay period the employers would count how many stones each particular worker made in order to determine their pay. The brick that you can see toward the top of the picture is from a restauration during the 14th or 15th century! This is one of the 5 main antiquated entrances to segovia.

Here is a picture of part of the wall of Segovia
